Veneers, often called “dental contact lenses,” are thin, custom-made porcelain shells bonded to the front of your teeth. They’re a top cosmetic dentistry choice for fixing:
With porcelain veneers, you get a durable result that looks natural.
Yes, porcelain veneers look incredibly natural! We design each veneer to match your teeth’s shape, size, colour, and luster. They blend seamlessly with your smile, with imperceptible edges for a high-quality finish.
Does getting veneers hurt? Not at all! We use local anaesthesia for a comfortable experience, and our skilled dentists prioritize your relaxation. Temporary veneers protect your teeth during the process, preventing sensitivity until your permanent porcelain veneers are ready.
With proper care, porcelain veneers can last 10–15+ years. Made from stain-resistant, durable porcelain, they keep your smile bright and youthful. Routine oral hygiene and optional night guards (for grinders) help maintain them long-term.
We discuss your smile goals—whether you want a perfect, bright look or a subtle, natural enhancement. X-rays check for decay or gum issues that need addressing first.
In your second visit (1–8 days later), we test each veneer’s fit and colour, then bond them with special cement hardened by a light beam. A follow-up may check gum response and fit.

Your dentist will assess your dental health, budget, and goals to recommend the perfect solution.
At Bayside Dental Discovery Bay, veneers offer a tailored fix for aesthetic concerns.
The Prince Philip Dental Hospital private patient fee schedule prices crowns, bridges, inlays and veneers per unit, at HK$7,700–$12,000, excluding outsourced dental laboratory work and special materials. Veneers are charged per tooth, so the cost of veneers depends mostly on how many teeth are treated and which material is used. The main factors are:
| Factor | How it affects the fee |
|---|---|
| Number of veneers | Each veneer is charged separately. Fixing one or two chipped or discoloured teeth needs far fewer veneers than changing the whole row of front teeth. |
| Porcelain or composite | Porcelain veneers are made by a dental laboratory and cost more to produce, and lab fees sit outside the reference range. Composite veneers are shaped directly in the clinic and usually cost less, but they stain and wear more easily. |
| Preparation and mock-up | Porcelain veneers usually need a thin layer of the tooth surface to be prepared. Some cases start with a trial mock-up so you can preview the result, which adds to the overall fee. |
| Treatment beforehand | Decay or gum inflammation needs treating first. If the main concern is mild discolouration, your dentist may suggest trying whitening first. These treatments are charged separately. |
These ranges are taken from the Prince Philip Dental Hospital private patient fee schedule and are for reference only. They are not Bayside Dental Discovery Bay’s fees, and they are not a quote. The examination is charged separately (reference range HK$600–$2,500). Your dentist will confirm the fee after a clinical assessment. Fees for other treatments are on our Hong Kong dental fee reference page.
Porcelain veneers are made in a dental laboratory over two visits; they resist staining, are more durable and can last about 10–15 years or more with care. Composite veneers (composite bonding) are shaped directly on the tooth, usually in one visit and at a lower cost, but they stain and wear more easily and typically last around 5–7 years, so they suit smaller fixes. Your dentist will recommend an option based on your teeth, budget and goals.
Porcelain veneers are irreversible. About 0.5 mm of enamel is removed to fit them, and enamel doesn’t grow back, so if a veneer is ever removed, the tooth will need a new restoration to protect it. Veneers must be removed and replaced by a dentist, never at home. To avoid regrets, talk through the look, shade and shape you want with your dentist in detail before going ahead.
Mild sensitivity or gum tenderness for 1–3 days after fitting is common and usually settles by itself. Longer term, a veneer can chip if you bite hard objects or grind at night, and decay can still develop at the edges if they aren’t kept clean. Veneers may need replacing after many years, and the enamel removed to fit them can’t be restored, so it’s worth discussing all of this with your dentist before you decide.
Much like natural teeth: brush twice a day, floss, and keep up regular check-ups and teeth cleaning. Don’t bite ice, pens or other hard objects with your front teeth, and if you grind at night, your dentist may recommend a night guard. Porcelain resists staining, but cutting down on coffee and red wine helps keep your other teeth matching your veneers.
Porcelain veneers resist staining, while composite veneers can yellow over time. Like crowns, veneers don’t change colour with whitening, so if you’d like whiter teeth overall, your dentist will usually suggest teeth whitening first, then matching the veneers to your new shade once it has settled.
It depends on your goals. If only one tooth is chipped or discoloured, a single veneer is possible, though your dentist will take particular care to match the shade and translucency of the neighbouring teeth. To change the overall look of your smile, you may need veneers on several of the front teeth that show when you smile. Your dentist will plan the number with you at the consultation.
Based on the Prince Philip Dental Hospital (PPDH) private patient fee schedule, a crown, bridge, inlay or veneer is about HK$7,700–$12,000 per unit, so each veneer counts as one unit; the range excludes outsourced dental laboratory work and special materials. Your total depends on how many veneers you need and the material. For reference only; this is not our clinic’s actual pricing, and your fee is confirmed after an examination.
